How to install ZSH & Oh My ZSH!

This article explains how to install ZSH and Oh My ZSH on several different operating systems. I use ZSH every working day. Altho the standard console works fine, the syntax highlighting and shortcuts provided by ZSH are far more efficient for a professional environment.

$ apt-get install zsh
$ apt-get install git-core
$ wget https://github.com/robbyrussell/oh-my-zsh/raw/master/tools/install.sh -O - | zsh
$ chsh -s `which zsh`
$ sudo shutdown -r 0

Centos 6

$ sudo yum install git
$ sudo yum install zsh
$ zsh --version
$ echo "/usr/local/bin/zsh" | sudo tee -a /etc/shells
$ chsh -s `which zsh`
$ cd /tmp
$ sh -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.github.com/robbyrussell/oh-my-zsh/master/tools/install.sh)" | zsh
